![]() Windbreakers have been around for around 70 years, and first started to be worn in North America. Japan followed suit shortly thereafter. It's a thin jacket, made to resist wind and rain, hence the name 'Windbreaker'. Fisherman's employ the garment more often, along with many of their crew members. Some people actually refer to Windbreakers as Raincoats, because Windbreakers are associated with being worn in the rain. The term Windbreaker was first used in advertisements in the 1930's by John Rissman clothing company in Chicago. The company had advertisements that showed the garment being worn on a male model, and was said to be the 'Real' genuine 'Windbreaker'. Windbreakers can be made from a variety of materials including cotton, polyester, and nylon and come mostly v neck style. People that go golfing, camping and fishing are famously photographed wearing Windbreakers. Certain people or characters amortized by pop culture were pictured wearing Windbreakers. A few such people were 'Beaver' from the popular TV show, 'Leave it to Beaver' or Dennis from 'Dennis The Menace'. A Wind breaker is still popular today, just as it was over 70 years ago when it first was marketed. Many boy scouts are photographed wearing them, at their various events and activities around the country. They are wonderful outwear for fun lake and beach activities.
